As a follow-up to my post about
John Risley a couple of days ago, I thought I'd share with you one of his figural chairs that we have in the store. Ever since I started researching his work, I've been unable to explain how these pieces can be so whimsical, yet at the same time be so elegant and evoke such a sense of serenity. I feel a whole range of emotions every time I look at this chair.
The piece is very clearly a barstool, judging by the height and the footrest at the bottom, but I would use it in my home as a sculptural object and have her hold a long, low glass bowl. Look at her hands under the seat.

So lovely! I would happily have one :)
ReplyDeleteI would gladly make a place in my house for one too, and I know just the bowl I'd have her hold.
DeleteYou said it perfectly - whimsical and elegant.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that? Usually the two are mutually exclusive.
DeleteI too think this work great as a sculputural piece rather than seating. It's too pretty to be utilitarian! Could definetely see her holding the bowl...
ReplyDeleteThere's a long, low green bowl at the store that I think would look perfect on it!
DeleteThis is exquisite. I know you'll sell this quick and for a good price.
ReplyDeleteIt's already received a good bit of attention, so I have a feeling it may sell quickly, even though there's only one.
DeleteI have a pair of these. I love them!
ReplyDeleteA pair would be so much fun to have!
